Kvart & Bølge Makers of Audiophile, Quarter-Wave,
Full-Range Loudspeakers and Sound Systems
4. Small design for better treble, stereo image and integration in your living space.
Many loudspeakers rely on large and heavy woofers to produce the very low sounds. Such large drivers, however, are not usually versatile enough to express the higher frequency without distortion. And several drivers are necessary. KVART & BØLGE relies on quarter-wave acoustics that allow the bass to extend well below what one might expect from a driver that small without any coloration. The advantage is that a smaller membrane breaks up at much higher frequencies, beyond those audible by human hearing.
3. Elimination of all electronics eliminate distortion and phase shifts.
Most speaker designs rely on complex circuitry called crossovers to divide the music into bass, mid and treble for the different loudspeaker drivers to express. The result is invariably distortion and as the sound transitions from one membrane to the other, slight shifts in coloration become apparent. More so, most higher order crossovers reverse the phase of the sound signal around the crossover point leading to a smeared stereo image and narrow cancellations and superpositions. KVART & BØLGE´s point source approach eliminates the need for any electronics at all. This brings an elegant, and effective design that relies on organic sound and no additives.
2. Point-source, full range sound, for best in class stereo imaging.
The human ear gets minute cues about the timing and phase of sound to locate its origin with incredible precision. Conventional loudspeakers, however, emit the same frequency from more than one place and slightly confuse the soundscape leading to blurring of the stereo image. KVART & BØLGE´s point source concept produces an incredibly wide and precise soundscape allowing the listener to indulge in the music like never before. This is accomplished by a design that eliminates very early reflections and acoustic lobing almost completely.
1. Uncolored natural sounding bass brings back the goosebumps
Conventional Loudspeakers produce their bass by a phenomenon called resonance. Like the sound produced when blowing over the neck of a bottle, there is a specific frequency in those speakers that dominates your music in what has become a dreaded phenomenon called "one note bass". KVART & BØLGE loudspeakers are conceptualized much more like musical instruments relying on standing quarter waves to reproduce a large range of notes faithfully and musically. This quarter-wave approach, also known as transmission-line, makes our sound stand out as natural and clear.
